APT commands

To upgrade all the packages on your system, and, if needed for a package upgrade, installing extra packages or removing packages, run:


sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Update the list of packages known by your system:


sudo apt-get update

(Execute this regularly to update your package lists)

Upgrade all the packages on your system (without installing extra packages or removing packages):


sudo apt-get upgrade

To install a package and all its dependencies:


sudo apt-get install packagename

 

Remove a package:


sudo apt-get remove packagename

Remove a package and its configuration files:


sudo apt-get --purge remove packagename
